Polarising Politics

Good Policy – Nothing More

Working together

Every candidate’s focus should be on our community and creating good policy. Picking up polarising mantles to divide the community, create drama and fuel bigotry should be a great indicator to voters of how much time a person is going to waste on petty politicking instead of engaging all of our community to produce great policy and outcomes.

If polarising politicians were to take things like their stance on removing welcomes from political rhetoric seriously then they would also have to remove the welcome religious prayer. Not game enough to suggest that one? Perhaps that’s too many votes lost.

Our community is made up of many diverse groups. Instead of separating everyone, how about we be inclusive? We need inclusive leaders, that can engage the whole community, not incite and encourage separation.

Is it a good policy to incite separation? No. Is it a great policy to be inclusive? Yes.

Does it hurt anyone to make everyone feel welcome? No.

Does it hurt anybody to have a little prayer? No.

Why does it have to be about race? Can’t we all acknowledge that we’re all either born here or have become citizens? Perhaps we’re welcoming tourists or temporary residents? Who cares if it’s an indigenous welcome, a religious welcome or just a good old bogan welcome saying: “G’day mate, let’s have a good time.”

Let’s focus on what our community needs. The Member for Keppels’ focus should be on inclusive policy. Making everyone feel like they’re a valued member of our community. Working together means accepting differences and looking past them to produce great outcomes.
