Health Care
Hospital & MD clinics overwhelmed
Healthy Communities
Given Keppel Electorates’ unprecedented recent growth and an expected increase of 23 thousand people over the next seven years, our medical and health services are not even remotely adequate to deal with the increased pressure that will be placed on them.
The currently under-equipped, understaffed and under-serviced Yeppoon Hospital facility will need to at least double in size during its next upgrade to be feasible to carry the area into the longer term. Emu Park community will also reach a size where it will become feasible to provide a satellite hospital on the southern end of the coast. Our northern suburbs need one now. These projects need to be addressed this election cycle. There are no exceptions when it comes to our community’s health and well-being.
Another health and medical area that needs to be addressed is the current shortfall of private medical clinics servicing our community and visitors. Local Medical Doctors are losing resident and residing doctors and finding it difficult to replace them. Our local clinics are not taking new patients and that is an alarming prospect going into the future. No new MD clinics are on track for development. No MDs are coming here to build practices to service our community! Our rapidly growing community will be facing not only a cost of living crisis, they’ll be facing a standard of living that is well below acceptable as health and well-being decline and they are forced to place an additional burden on the nearby Rockhampton community to seek services.
These issues need to be addressed this election cycle. Let’s stop wasting time talking about divisive issues and let’s get cracking on good policy and excellent projects that support OUR community.
